Mürren looks like a fairy tale village, and for good reason. It was Walt Disney's inspiration for creating Disneyland and J.R.R. Tolkein's inspiration for the utopian Elvin Kingdom in his masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings. It is the World's real life Magic Kingdom!
Mürren is a charming Swiss mountain village of 450 people at the foot of the Schilthorn peak, which is accessible only by cable car. It is perched on a shelf of Alpine pasture forming a balcony overlooking the steep cleft of the Lauterbrunnen Valley - with stunning views of the surrounding glaciers, Trümmelbach and 72 other waterfalls, and the majestic mountain trio of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
As the famous travel writer and TV host Rick Steve's says, Mürren is the "crown" of Switzerland – majestic alpine scenery wherever you turn, steeped in traditional mountain culture and, yes, that includes live Alphorn players in the village playing on a random Tuesday afternoon, scrumptious fondue made from local cheese farmers, the ringing of Swiss cow bells as you stroll through the wild flower-filled trails, and world class skiing, hiking, mountain biking, sledding and paragliding at your fingertips.
Murren is the highest altitude ski resort in the Bernese Oberland and is your Playground in the Clouds!
