"We had the good fortune to find Chalet Böbs on trip advisor and stayed five nights in early August. Kitty and Albert were wonderful and attentive hosts who made us feel very welcome in their home. We stayed in the top floor apartment with two bedrooms and a kitchenette/living room with wonderful views of the mountains across the valley. It was just right for a family of four. The accommodations are an incredible value compared to other options in the area. Given the high prices in local restaurants, we made good use of the local grocery store and kitchenette. The location worked well for us: it is literally the last building on the right in Mürren on the road to Gimmelwald, so it is quiet but only a short uphill walk to the shops and restaurants options in town or about a 15 minute walk to the train station on the far side of Mürren. Our stay at Chalet Böbs was the highlight of our trip to Europe and we would absolutely return again."

We looked all over Vengen and Murren for accomodations for 2 with cooking facilities. Hotels simply don't have kitchenettes in this area the way you might find elsewhere. We found Chalet Bobs and are so happy we did. We stayed in the ground floor apartment. It has eat-in kitchen, bathroom, and combination bedroom/living room, which was fine for a couple. The view from the window is unbelievable, looking out to the mountains across the valley. We enjoyed on the patio outside and watching the paragliders sail over our heads from their launch point just up the hill. It's on the downhill edge of town, out of the hustle and bustle but not a long walk (once you are used to the altitude). Kitty was delightful and helped us with suggestions, and we enjoyed hearing Albert play his alphorn.

We stayed in one of the apartments at Boebs Chalet for 10 days in early September. Albert & Kitty were fantastic hosts and we enjoyed meeting them. The view from these apartments are stunning and we loved the space it offered as opposed to a hotel room. The price was SO much less than a hotel. We also liked that it was away from the village as it was so peaceful but it was only a short walk to the Coop to get supplies. We were very lucky to hear Albert play his Alpenhorn as he's been ill for quite some time and is just recovering. We wouldn't stay anyplace else now that we've stayed here!!

We stayed at Chalet Bobs this summer and loved it! The views from this Chalet are breathtaking! The apartment is on the outskirts of Murren, which we loved because it was very quiet. Getting to the 'center' of Murren was very easy - just a quick climb up some stairs to get to the base of the Gondola. The apartment itself was very clean and had all the necessary amenities for us to cook our own meals. While our room did not have a balcony, we were able to sit out on the porch or on the first floor balcony to enjoy the view. Our host was very kind and helpful and made us and our kids feel welcome. The kids' room had some nice books, toys and lego that our boys loved playing with. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this place!

This was our first time in Murren, Switzerland. We are so glad we chose to stay at Bob's Chalet. The location is unbeatable with unobstructed panoramic views all around! Kitty was a gracious hostess and made us feel right at home making sure we had everything we needed. We stayed in the middle apartment and there was enough room for our family of four. If you want a home base for doing lots of hiking around the Schilthorn in the Bernese Oberland, this is the place for you!

This is our second visit here and we would highly recommend it. We stayed for 10 nights in the bottom apartment. It is compact but more than adequate for a couple. The kitchen is well equipped, the bed very comfortable and the view from the sitting room/bedroom is magnificent. There is a terrace with seating in front of the apartment with the same view. Albert and Kitty are delightful hosts and a source of any information you may need.

Chalet Böbs provided us with EXCELLENT ACCOMODATIONS with a MILLION DOLLAR VIEW during our 4 night stay in late May and early June 2017. Mürren, Switzerland offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the world and Chalet Böbs provides a front row seat to the view of Mounts Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. We rented the lower level apartment from Albert and Kitty, who live in the other side of the house. The bottom apartment was the perfect size for the two of us. It contained a full bath and shower with space heater and heated towel drying rack, a well equipped kitchen with a table that could seat 6, a combination bedroom/ living room with couch, end tables, clothes closet, china cabinet, and TV. The bedroom/living room had a double window that opened up to a million dollar…

We stayed at Chalet Bobs for a few days in June 2016, and we couldn't recommend this apartment or the owners more highly! Albert and Kitty were very helpful on the day of our arrival, and showed us all the facilities and amenities in the apartment, along with information on the local areas in and around Murren. The biggest bonus for us was the stunning views from the balcony of our apartment, and we were blessed by good weather for our entire stay, so we took full advantage of this and used to sit out for breakfast and dinner / evening drinks to take in the beauty of the idyllic Swiss Alpine village and panorama.

When we tell people that we have been to Switzerland they frequently remark that it is a very expensive place to visit. Well, maybe so to stay in an upscale hotel in Zurich. However, aside from getting there, we vacation in Switzerland for about the same as it costs for us to vacation in the US. We do that by traveling by train, going to places like Mürren, and staying at places like Chalet Böbs.
The Lauterbrunnen Valley side of the Jungfrau region is the most beautiful place on the planet. Mürren Switzerland is a little village perched on a cliff that overlooks the valley on one side and the mountains on the other, and is accessible only by train or cable car. It is somewhat of a tourist destination, but nothing like the busyness of Zermatt or Grindelwald. This year was our second stay at Chalet Böbs, and now to stay anywhere else in Jungfrau region would be like going to our hometown and not staying at our house. It is a Swiss chalet in which the exceptionally gracious owners, Herr Albert and Frau Kitty, live on one side and rent the 3 floors of the other side. Each apartment includes a kitchen, bath, sitting area, one or two bedrooms, and a view that I cannot describe in words. The waterfall down the hill sings you to sleep at night and the cows walking up the road wake you up in the morning. There is a well-stocked grocery store just up the hill and local farms that sell their own cheese, bread and dried meats, so having access to a kitchen will save you a lot of money compared with eating every meal in restaurants. However, do not miss the local rosti potatoes and the schnitzel down the hill in Gimmelwald.

We had the bottom apartment for two and it more than met our needs. It was very comfortable and quiet, with an unbeatable view of the mountains and glaciers from the window. There is a sofa in the bed/sitting room which we moved in front of the window for the view. The sun hits the terrace in front of the apartment from early morning till late afternoon and we made good use of the two chairs and small table provided there. We self catered for the whole week and the kitchen was fine for this. Albert and Kitty made us very welcome, providing us with any information we needed. An excellent holiday!

The chalet was easy to find. From the train station, walk on the lower level road-the one that goes to Gimmelwald, until you reach the last house on your right-that's Chalet Bobs. It is about a 10 minute walk from the train station.
My husband and I booked the basement room for three nights. We paid a total of 360 euros. There was plenty of room for the two of us and the view couldn't be beat! The kitchenette had a stove/oven to cook with. It would have been nice to have a microwave as well.
Our hosts, Kitty and Albert were very nice and full of helpful suggestions of things to see and do in the area.

The apartment is spacious, well stocked, spotlessly clean and comes with a breathtaking view. We stayed on the lowest level with two adults and it was more than enough space. But, more importantly than the accommodations are the incredible hosts! Meeting and spending time with Albert and Kitty was so much fun. And of course Albert's alpenhorn performance was just the icing on the cake! They could not have been more kind and welcomed us into their home like old friends. I highly recommend a stay in this little slice of paradise!

You actually rent the second floor of a house. Friendly owner. Great communication Loaned us a book about hiking & sites to see in the area. Did our laundry for 10 CHF! Had ground coffee, filters, tea, sugar on hand. Would absolutely come back. Checked in to make sure we were ok several times. Bed is made of 2 fixed mattresses w abt 2" btwn them - hard to snuggle! Had washcloths, which is unusual in Europe. Bring shampoo; shower was a bit difficult to use. Great view of mountains although there were some wires & a tower also in view. If you are looking for a cottagey feel and to be in the real Alps, away from cities, this is the place. The highlight of our 3 month European vacation.

We rented part of the top floor of Chalet Bobs for 4 nights based on reviews on trip advisor. What an excellent stay, with an outstanding location as the last home before the trails and full unobstructed view of the "maiden", "monk", and "ogre" peaks. Lovely two bedrooms, full kitchen, living room, and bathroom with outside seating and free wifi. Pleasant walk from the train station or very short walk to the gondola. There is a Co-op grocery store in Murren so it is easy to do your own cooking. This chalet is a wonderful base home for exploring the Jungfrau region, and Kitty and Albert were gracious hosts (note: they live on the ground floor of the house so easy to contact them for questions). Highly recommended!

The true Alps experience can be found in Murren and the surrounding area, and Chalet Bobs was a perfect home for us on our first visit to Switzerland. Albert and Kitty were so kind, interesting, and gracious. The apartment is clean, there's a grocery nearby, and the view is breathtaking. Hikes into gorgeous valleys, or up onto mountain trails are easily accessible. A train or cable car enable further exploration. We feel so blessed to have found Murren and Chalet Bobs.

My family (2 adults and 2 children) stayed in the middle apartment for 3 nights. This apartment was wonderful and just so memorable. Our stay was fantastic. Kitty and Albert are the best. I have no ideas why people would want to stay up in the hotels or guest houses. The main strip especially near the train stop is definitely not where I would like to have stayed.
First, the location is amazing. Located just below the tram lines. It could be a longer walk for those out of shape. From the main train stop...its down a beautiful flower and chalet lined street. However, this little walk puts you away from any tourist feel. Rather you become a "resident" of Murren. Kitty and Albert will help you with all the details. My daughter was on crutches and we managed the uphill walk just fine.
Down the hill is the beautiful walk to Gimmelwald. A must do! Make sure to get some homemade cheese in the town. In Murren, its fun to stroll and people watch. My kids loved the playground need the sports center. The giant chess board near the bakery is also a great place to sit and people watch.
As you know, Switzerland is expensive so we ate in the apartment for most meals. This saved us a ton of money. We had a wonderful pot of fondue looking at the view our window. The flat is appropriately stocked with pots, pans etc. The coop is a short walk up the hill. Don't forget to stock up on the local beer Rugenbrau.
As for culture, the first night we saw Albert play Alp horn at the local folk concert. The next few days he was practicing for an upcoming contest. It was wonderful, sitting on the patio listening to him play Alp horn! How fantastic! Albert has a big telescope and can show you the local eagles nesting across the valley.
Our personal highlight was paragliding right over the chalet into the valley. The trip was amazing and highly recommended. 30 minutes plus of free flying like a bird.
From Murren, you can explore the Jungfrau or the mountains above Wengan.
In all, we had a 3 week trip to Europe, Chalet Bobs was our favorite location. We stayed in some nice places in Prague and Croatia. Yet this place is the complete package.
Many thanks to Kitty and Albert. Wishing you well!

A great base for Alpine hiking, taking the cable car up to the Schilthorn and exploring the villages of Murren and Lauterbrunnen.

We have stayed with Kitty and Albert, owners of Chalet Bobs, 4 times and look forward to many future visits. Kitty and Albert are gracious and knowledgeable hosts who make us feel welcome every time we visit. We consider them our friends. They know everything about the area and are happy to share their knowledge. Their clean apartment has everything you need during your stay. Murren is an experience, not just a place to stay. Taking a cablecar and a cog railway to arrive in Murren, Chalet Bobs overlooks the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau, just above the Lauterbrunnen Valley. We use the location as a base, staying at least a week. Besides the local hiking (North Trail, Hike down to Stechelberg, Winteregg, and the beautiful Lauterbrunnen Valley), you have access to the whole Bernese Oberland area. We like to go to Schynige Platte and hike, then head to First via Grindelwald to hike to Lake Bachalpsee and then to Grosse Scheidegg (take the Post Bus back to Grindelwald), Mannlichen via Wengen and either take the gondolas down to Grindelwald or hike to Kleine Scheidegg. We often go to Interlaken Ost to take the boat to Spiez or Thun to visit their castles. The area is definitely what we envision when we think of Switzerland. Can't wait to go back to Chalet Bobs.

Even if Kitty and Albert weren't fantastic hosts and incredibly nice people, we would have had a fantastic visit at their chalet. The little apartment was just what we needed: comfort, a place to cook (there was even a cheese slicer!) and a fair price. We even had a perfect view of the Eiger, Monk and Jungfrau just outside our window. It was lovely going to sleep to the faint sound of a nearby waterfall, and waking up such a beautiful village. We were nice and close to the gondola, and Kitty suggested a great restaurant for our first night in town. We were only there for three nights, but it definitely felt like a home away from home. My only regret is not getting a chance to hear Albert play his alphorn. If we were to go that way again, we would absolutely return to Chalet Bobs! It was my favourite part of our Eurotrip!

I loved my trip to Murren, and there’s not much I can add here to what’s already been written. But I will give some helpful tips I wish I had to keep from looking like a clueless tourist. I don’t speak any German so there was a bit of a language barrier.
The garbage should be emptied in the metal box by the road.. This is basically a small dumpster with wheels. For recycling, I was able to throw milk containers and plastic bottles in bins right in front of the Coop. Glass bottles, however, go in “a small hut” by the Coop. I was completely lost on this, but a helpful local pointed me towards a squat unlabeled building a few down from the Coop on the same side of the road. The glass dumpsters were inside this building. You should take all the sheets off the bed when you leave, including the duvet covers. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Maybe it’s just me, but seeing notices around the room written in German with exclamation points is… intimidating. But Kitty and Albert could not be nicer.
Hikers, make sure you grab that nice color map of the area. It’s helpful to a degree, although there are no distances, and the elevation marks don’t make much sense with the way the map is laid out. There are no bad hikes in this area. We went to Gimmelwald, Spurtz (a waterfall), Gimmla (a farming area), Almenhubel, and Winteregg. I’ll come back as soon as I can.

We stayed in Murren for 3 nights. Murren itself is awesome. It is so peaceful and scenic , you want to stay more no matter how long you have been there. Chalet Bob's is apartment kind of arrangement with a kitchen , bedroom and bathroom. We stayed on ground floor and the view from our windows were awesome. You will feel heavenly in this place. The owners are great people and it was nice to be able to meet them. Only problem with us was that we traveled with lot of luggage and Chalet Bob's being a walk of 15-20 minutes from BLM stop, it was little troublesome to walk all the way with that much of luggage to and fro. But otherwise if you are travelling light , i think you cannot find a better place to stay than this one .

We stayed on the top level for our honeymoon and couldn't of asked for anything better. The room was spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was nice to be able to save money on food and store in the refrigerator. Kitty and Albert was so sweet and accommodating. A couple of times we went to concerts in town and the surrounding towns to see Albert play the Alphorn. He is pretty much a local celebrity! It is obvious the views are outstanding from Murren but Chalet Bobs has the best in town in my opinion. We met a couple that was staying right on the main street and said it gets very loud especially at night. Even though we were a little bit farther down the hill, it was worth it to open our windows at night and listen to the waterfall right outside our window as we slept. Pure peace and quietness. Definitely would recommend Chalet Bobs and look forward to going back in the future!

Mürren is about as perfect as a place on earth can get, and Böbs is the best place to stay. I could simply leave my review at that. How about this: people return here, year after year, some come to stay for three weeks at a time. You simply do not develop a clientele like that for no reason. We had the bottom apartment for three nights. It had a kitchen-dining area with all the cooking stuff you need, good sized clean bathroom, and a living-bedroom with a fantastic view. We had two chairs and a table out front of our place, unlike the upper units which have no deck, but have more space. We arrived in pouring rain, we literally had to empty our packs and spread it all out to dry. Not a problem as we had lots of room. We used the kitchen for pne big meal a day, eating outside to enjoy the view. There is WiFi, a TV with good radio stations, and the owners are really great people. Don't be concerned that the apartment is "waaay out on the edge of town," everything is like a five minute walk, and again, the view is unsurpassed. They asked me to send a bank check for $150 to hold the room, and sure enough they returned it to me on arrival. Don't be put off by this, they are a family business and work on a cash basis, so this is efficient and helps keep costs down. So, I am saying, this is such a great place, I am already trying to scheme how to get back here!

We arrived on a day when visibility was about 20 metres, and we managed to navigate our way across Mürren to Chalet Böbs (peering closely at all signposts due to the low cloud). Our apartment on the first floor has 3 rooms and sleeps 5. The main bedroom has a double bed, a wardrobe, and views to die for (although we couldn’t see anything when we arrived!) The second bedroom has a single bed, a double bunk, two small wardrobes and two kiddie chairs. The bathroom is fairly small, with a shower and a toilet. The living/dining room has two 2-seater sofas, a coffee table, a bookshelf with a handful of books (some in English), a dining table with 6 chairs (a couple of which were in the bedrooms) and a chest-of-drawers which doubles as a bench. Windows look east over the valley and north towards the town. The kitchen contains a bar fridge, a 3-burner electric stove, oven, kettle, coffeemaker and plenty of crockery and cutlery. It’s fairly small but there was plenty of room for three adults. There is heating in every room, including the entry, which has coat hooks and shoe racks. There is also wi-fi. It would have been entertaining watching our faces that first evening as the cloud lifted in patches and bits of mountain and valley became visible – and then invisible!
There is a terrace outside with some plastic chairs and the best view in the world! Our hosts Kitty and Albert were fabulous. We raced down to their terrace as soon as Albert started playing his alphorn, which was amazing. I just sat and listened for about an hour each time. I even got to have a go myself! Mürren was a wonderful place to stay – and yes – we did get some good weather – and we really enjoyed Chalet Böbs – leaning on the window ledges watching the mountains and the valley and the people walking down to Gimmelwald, or just sitting on the terrace watching cablecars and paragliders.
And everything about the other four reviews still applies – except there is now internet in the apartment.

Of the 3 weeks on this trip, Chalet Bobs was our favorite place we stayed. The views are mind-blowing. Look at the pics. Chalet Bobs is really economical too considering how expensive CH is. And you'll reduce your meal costs by dining in.
The apt is small but clean and comfortable has everything you need. The owners live in the building and very nice and friendly.
The hiking in the region is the best. I love Switzerland - how everything is clean and tidy everywhere, people are well-mannered, the public transit runs like clockwork.
It's about a 5-10 min hilly walk to the place from either the main train station or from the cable car station.
Note that the grocery store in town closes in the middle of the day for about an hour.
We're planning on going back next year.

If you are considering Murren and Chalet Boebs, to borrow a saying--Just do it! Murren has a spectacular position, much closer to the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau than Grindelwald, and Chalet Boebs offers an excellent locale for viewing them. As other reviews have pointed out, the chalet is the last house in Murren on the way down to Gimmelwald. Rick Steves loves Gimmelwald, but we were very happy with Chalet Boebs'location, as Murren offers a range of stores and conveniences, while Gimmelwald offers a rural farm village atmosphere...and Chalet Boebs gets the best of both worlds. More importantly, while the chlaet offers no deck, its windows open on to a spectacular vista. Walks in the area are amazing as well.
Kitty and Albert are welcoming and helpful while respectful of guests' privacy. The chalet is well-furnished and comfortable. Both my husband and I really enjoyed the comfy bed and duvets, and I loved saving money cooking some meals with vittles from the town market, Coop. (Prices there are similar to Coops in other places, so no need to schlep food up to Murren to save money.) As others have pointed out, the restaurant prices are very high given a weak dollar, so we took advantage of the well-stocked kitchen and the pleasures of the spaciousness of our upper floor chalet apartment for meals. There is also a table outside when the weather allows for an outdoor meal at that altitude.
The locked room other reviews mention is indeed another bedroom (with bunkbeds--see the website photos) when more than a couple stay. I did a lot of research and comparison before choosing Chalet Boebs. While it is out of town and a bit of a hike, we could not have been happier with our choice of accommodation in Murren.

Chalet Bob’s, oh how I miss you! This is a long, wordy review so I’ll get to the point—yes, I would recommend this place for your stay in Murren. We stayed in this quaint little chalet for three days in late June 2011. Located at the far end of town, under the Schilthorn cable car and on the road to Gimmelwald, we arrived toting our backpacks and in awe of our surroundings. On the door was a note from Kitty and Albert (the owners) welcoming us and letting us know which apartment was ours. We were given the middle floor that is entered at ground level. The door was unlocked and we found the apartment to be clean and well-equipped. Our apartment was a one bedroom with living room, kitchenette and bathroom. There was another door that may have gone to a second bedroom, but it was locked so we are not sure if this was part of the apartment or something else. Regardless, there was quite enough space for two people. The kitchen has everything you need to cook, even a few dry goods like sugar, coffee and spices. Speaking of which, if you’re coming from the U.S., take note that the oven is not in Fahrenheit in Europe. We actually forgot this for a few moments while attempting to cook a pizza (purchased from the Co-op).
A few hours after we arrived, we met Kitty who was ever so hospitable and spoke English. We learned as much German as we could, but we traveled for month in Europe and had to learn some French and Italian as well, so we appreciated that the communication barriers were lessened. Later, we heard Albert playing his alphorn from his patio. Having never heard the alphorn played, I was struck by the beauty of its melancholy melody. As Albert practiced his instrument, paragliders sailed down from a highpoint above. Coupled with a view so breathtaking that words cannot do justice (I mean, the Alps are right there out the window), I felt so overwhelmed by the beauty of it all, that I actually got a little weepy (shhh…don’t tell anyone).
There is no internet access but there is cable television with three channels in English (CNN, BBC and something else). As previously mentioned, the apartments have kitchenettes which are a blessing considering the STEEP prices in the restaurants. The average prices are about 30 francs for dinners like schnitzel or steak and fries or 10 francs for a dish of ice cream. We ate out the first night at Edelweiss but picked up groceries for the remainder of our meals at the CO-OP grocery store. This is a Swiss chain and you can find everything you need for meals there, just make sure you check the hours-- closed on Sunday and they close for a few hours in the afternoon before opening back up and operating until 18:30 on other days.
As I write this review, it is the eve before our departure. We hiked down to the valley floor twice and back up and once down from the Schilthorn (if your knees can take it, do it; it’s about a three hour hike, though, so take water) and it was so nice to have a quiet place to end the day. With that said the upstairs apartment has been vacant until about 2 hours ago and let me tell you, they are LOUD. This could be their two kids running around or it could be a symptom of thin walls and floors. Just something to keep in mind, if you’re the persnickety type. Regardless, Murren now holds a special place in our hearts and Chalet Bobs was an excellent place to stay.

We booked our room thru the website www.boebs.ch . After checking the availability I requested to stay, the online calendar was a little off of what was available but there was an opening when I needed it. Emailing was mostly good with some delay in response. A deposit check was requested and mailed to Switzerland to secure the room. The check took less than a week from California USA to arrive.
The Apartment was located at the very edge of town on the road to Gimmelwald. It is the last house on the right on the road down, right under the Gondola lift lines (just look for the sign). There is a climb every morning up into Murren for food and other things. It's not far but is a little steep. This may not be the most convenient location but let me just say the view makes up for this in a big way. Go to the website and see the pan view. This is the actual view and let me say it is much better in person, absolutely incredible! There are cows grazing field right under the window as well as a flowing river which adds peaceful sounds of bells and water while you gaze at the incredible mountain scenery. This has to be the most scenic place I have ever been.
The apartment was nice. It had more room than the other rooms we rented for our trip. It is not large by US standards but for Euro standards it is roomy. The kitchen was nice and a real money saver since most things in Switzerland are very expensive including restaurants. We purchased food at the CO OP (town market) next to the ATM and it saved us a ton on food. The bed was comfortable and good size. The shower was the typical euro shower enclosure the water was regulated but was nice and hot. There were only 2 of us but there is a whole extra room available if you have a family. Things would get tight but manageable. Overall this was one of our best accommodations in Europe on this trip.
If you need WIFI, since it is not available in room, the Post Office has free WIFI off the front of the building. Eiger Guesthouse also has WIFI available just ask. This was critical for our Skype calls every evening; this is also a money saver if you have a laptop.
Exploring the region can be expensive as some trains and Gondolas are MUCH more expensive than the standard destinations. I would say spend the money since this region is so incredible we had 3 days traveling here and it was not enough, I could have stayed much longer, it is so beautiful you will want more. For us Murren was perfect, Gimmelwald was too small and Wegen was too big so Murren was just right. I would consider Wegen next time the view was not as good but the shopping and services were in better supply.
If you have the opportunity to see this region go. It is breathtaking. It is similar to Yosemite but on an even grander scale if you can imagine that. If I were anywhere close to this area I would not miss it. We rode the train all over Northern Italy and the whole mid section of Switzerland and this was the most incredible place we saw. Bobs Chalet is a gem if you can handle the morning climb to town. For about the same price as the hotels you get an apartment with more room and way better scenery. Highly Recommended.
